Department Overview

Skagit County Fire District 14, operating under “Alger Fire & Rescue,” serves a remote rural area about 25 square miles north of Burlington, WA, along Interstate‑5 approximately 100 miles north of Seattle and 25 miles from Canada. The volunteer department protects roughly 4,000 residents, operating out of two stations with 24/7 staffing through a duty‑officer program. The district handles fire suppression, emergency medical, rescue, and haz‑mat calls, including responsibilities on Department of Natural Resources and Upper Skagit tribal lands.

Community & Response

Ideal for off-road and forestry terrain, this wildland unit supports initial attack on remote fires and provides coverage for I‑5 corridor emergencies. With fully trained volunteer firefighters, the unit enhances local wildfire resilience—ensuring rapid, capable response in challenging rural environments.
