Department Overview
Highland Fire Rescue operates under Yakima County Fire District #1, covering the highland area and the communities of Cowiche and Tieton. The department protects roughly 11,000 residents across 75 square miles of orchards, vineyards, and foothills, responding to structural, wildland, and rescue calls.

This multi-role unit bridges wildland suppression and rescue capability, tailored for Highland’s mix of terrain. It allows rapid deployment to brush fires and provides essential extrication or EMS support for long-distance rural calls.
